Nordstrom arrives in Calgary

CALGARY — With cowbells ringing, shouts of ‘Calgary’ and staff clapping with gusto, Nordstrom Inc. threw open the doors to its first store outside the U.S. on Friday morning, welcoming thousands of eager shoppers at the Chinook Centre.

“I love it. I love how bright and open it is. Look at all the shoes, there’s so many shoes!” said Rebecca Strang, 40, who, like many women in the line-up before the store opened at 9:30 a.m., had never lined up for a store opening in her life.

“I’ve never been excited about a store opening, ever. I’ve shopped at Nordstrom in the U.S. The service is top-notch and the selection is second-to-none,” said Strang, an event planner.

Inside Canada's First Nordstrom Store

Last night we attended the gala opening of Canada's first Nordstrom location, and we've included some photos in this article. The store is stunning. The Calgary store is only the second in the chain to feature the retailers's new store design, which other Canadian Nordstrom locations will follow. The Chinook Centre store opens to the public at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday, September 19). Nordstrom’s celebrates opening with charity gala for Alberta Children’s Hospital, Calgary United Way

Without even opening their new Calgary store, Nordstrom’s already sold out of one precious product.

The specialty department store giant opens the doors of its Chinook Centre store to the public Friday morning.

But long before that, they’ve cleared out 1,800 tickets at $100 a pop for a huge gala raising funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Calgary’s United Way.

“The tickets went on sale in early June and were sold out in two weeks,” said Nordstrom spokesman John Bailey.

Nordstrom’s Canadian debut not its only growth catalyst

Nordstrom Inc.’s first store north of the border opens in Calgary this Friday and it’s generating big buzz among Canadians with deep pockets and a flair for fashion.

But it’s the U.S. luxury retailer’s other growth initiatives that have analysts talking about further upside in the stock, despite an already impressive run-up this year.

Starting with one store was a good idea: Nordstrom

Nordstrom made the right decision in entering the Canadian marketplace with a single store, said Erik Nordstrom, one of the Nordstrom family members behind the retailer’s first international expansion.

The first Nordstrom in Canada is scheduled to open in Calgary’s Chinook Centre on Friday.

The first GTA stores are scheduled to open in 2016, at Toronto Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Shopping Centre. A Sherway Gardens location will open in 2017.
